10 Years of Best Cup of Coffee

Real Deal Roasters old Sprite converted green caravan

Inspiration came when we were sitting on the sofa watching TV. George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces showcased a woman who had turned an old caravan into a cute little mobile café and I decided to do the same. We converted a derelict 1969 Sprite caravan into a fabulous travelling coffee shop and started selling at festivals and markets.

One of the first problems we encountered was the difficulty of finding consistently great coffee to sell at a reasonable price. So we decided to roast our own coffee beans. We bought a small roasting machine and so Real Deal Roasters were born.

Farmers Markets

In October 2013 we started trading both at Deal Town Saturday Market and also at Cliftonville Farmers Market in Margate. A decade on we are still there serving up great coffee together with our delicious ANZAC biscuits.

Anzac Biscuits

We serve a loyal customer base as well as the many holidaymakers who visit our lovely home town. We frequently hear the words “that was the best cup of coffee ever”, for us these are our “likes” and are even more important than followers on social media!

How has the coffee business changed

The coffee business has changed a lot over the last 10 years. At the start tea was one of our biggest sellers but now flat whites and lattes are by far the most popular.

Customers are also becoming more knowledgeable asking for piccolos and cortados together with a variety of plant based milks.

We have expanded our range to over 15 different coffees from all around the world. We have also upgraded to a classic artisan gas fired roaster and have hand-roasted well over 50,000 kgs of coffee on it.

During lockdown we reflected on towing our caravan and felt it was too big for our needs. We wanted to concentrate on just selling great coffee, so we bought a converted Suzuki Carry van together with a brand new British made Fracino lever 2 group dual fuel coffee machine. This is a superb machine which allows us to operate off grid for several hours.

Online Coffee Shop

We have a successful on-line shop and supply numerous coffee shops and farm shops in Kent and retail customers right across the UK.

We stick to what we know and always focus on what the customer wants; great coffee at a good price with no nonsense. Our Super 7 selection box is a great way to sample some of our coffees, do try some today.

We celebrated with balloons, new seat covers(!), free ANZACs and a raffle in aid of our favourite local charity Martha Trust.

It’s been a very enjoyable decade. We’re looking forward to the next 10 years of being Real Deal Roasters!
